The much-anticipated Volkswagen Tera compact SUV has finally been revealed at Rio Carnival parades in Brazil. This is the smallest Volkswagen SUV, which will first go on sale in the Brazilian market this year. The Tera is entirely designed in Brazil, by the team of Jose Carlos Pavone, head of Design at Volkswagen for the Americas.
The VW Tera will be manufactured in the Taubaté factory (SP). In the global markets, the Volkswagen SUV will rival the likes of the Fiat Pulse and the Nissan Kicks. It will be positioned below the Nivus and T-Cross, and will slot slightly above the Polo hatchback. The new SUV is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB A0 platform that also underpins the Nivus, Polo, T-Cross, Taigun, Kushaq and Skoda Kylaq.
Volkswagen has not released the engine specifications and technical data of the Tera compact SUV. The SUV will measure around 4 meters in length and will share the wheelbase with Polo hatchback that's 2,566 mm.

The new Volkswagen Tera shows the brand's new design identity, which is shared with the brand's latest global SUVs including the new gen Tiguan and the Taos. The SUV comes with all LED lighting systems including LED headlamps and tail-lamps. It comes with a unique daytime running lights signature, which has split lighting in two segments above the headlights There is a chrome strip that connects the two sides.
To give it a rugged look, Volkswagen has added an aggressive front bumper that houses a big air intake in honeycomb shape, flanked by two prominent side air intakes. It misses out on fog lamps. The Volkswagen Tera also gets newly designed rearview mirrors. Moreover, the LED tail-lights are connected by a black bar with silver stripes.
The revealed model comes with five-spoke diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, offering a sporty design. Lower variants will come with affordable steel wheels with hubcaps.

The interior of the VW Tera shares some resemblance with VW ID electric cars including the central console and multimedia unit. However, the dashboard layout will be similar to the one offered in the Nivus and Polo.

Volkswagen has not released the engine specifications of the Tera. It is most likely to be powered by the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI engine that powers the Polo hatchback in Brazil. This engine is capable of producing 116 hp and 164 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque convertor automatic.
