Volvo to launch the XC40 Recharge on 26th July in India; The all-electric SUV claims a WLTP range of 418 kilometres on a single charge; Is locally produced at the company’s Hosakote plant in Karnataka
Months after unveiling its first electric product for India, Volvo Cars India is now ready to launch the EV into the market and announce its pricing. This will be the first locally assembled luxury EV SUV in the country. The local manufacturing is expected to help the Swedish manufacturer minimize production costs and price the EV aggressively.
The XC40 Recharge will launch on the 26th of July 2022 in India with deliveries starting from the festive season. For this launch, Volvo has planned a unique and futuristic theme referred to as the ‘VolvoVerse’.
Volvo Cars India set forth that the all-electric XC40 Recharge SUV will be assembled at the brand’s Hosakote manufacturing facility near Bengaluru. This manufacturing plant already produces the Volvo XC90, XC 60 and XC40. Further, the automaker highlighted its plans to globally electrify its range by 2030 and introduce an electric model every year, starting from 2022.
“We are committed to grow the Indian market and our plans to assemble our latest offering the XC40 Recharge at our plant in Bengaluru is a reflection of this resolute. The future of mobility is electric and as a company, we have already stated that we will be an all-electric car company by 2030. Our focus on local assembly is a step in this direction”, commented Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India on the eve of this announcement.
The EV comes powered by a 78 kWh battery pack that channels power through 150 kW electric motors mounted on both axles. The maximum rated power output is 402bhp and 660 Nm of torque. The EV is capable of doing 0-100 kmph sprint in less than 5 seconds while delivering a claimed range of 418 kilometres in one full charge. The carmaker claims a charge time of 33 minutes (10-80 percent) using the 150 kW DC fast charger.
Expected to be launched in the last week of June 2025, the MG Cyberster electric sports car is available for pre booking at a token amount of Rs 50,000
