New Electric Cars Set to Arrive in India This October

India's electric car market is set to get more options in the coming weeks, with Volvo and VinFast preparing to introduce new models across different segments. The upcoming EVs include premium electric SUVs, a luxury electric sedan and a small city-focused electric SUV.

The Volvo EX90 and ES90 are expected to target the premium end of the market, while the VinFast VF3 could offer a more compact and affordable option. Here is what we know about these upcoming electric cars and their expected India launch timelines.

1. Volvo EX90

Volvo is expected to launch the EX90 electric SUV in India around October 12. The three-row EV will sit at the top of the brand's electric SUV range and is expected to be offered in the Ultra variant. The India-spec EX90 is expected to feature a 106kWh battery pack and a dual-motor setup. It produces 456 hp and 670 Nm, while the claimed range is expected to be up to 625km, depending on the specification. The cabin gets a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 9-inch driver display. It is also expected to feature a premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system along with a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems. With three rows of seating and a large battery, the EX90 will target buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with plenty of space and long-distance range.

2. Volvo ES90

Volvo is also expected to bring the ES90 electric sedan to India around the same time. The luxury EV is based on Volvo's electric vehicle platform and is positioned as a larger premium sedan. Internationally, the ES90 is offered with 92kWh and 106kWh battery options. Depending on the version, power output ranges from 333 hp to 680 hp. The ES90 also uses an 800V electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging of up to 350kW. The top-spec version has a claimed range of up to 696km under the WLTP cycle. More details about the India-spec version, including its battery configuration, variant and pricing, are expected closer to the launch.

3. VinFast VF3

VinFast could also add a smaller and more affordable electric model to its India portfolio with the VF3. The compact electric SUV is expected to arrive around October 18-19. The VF3 has a very different approach compared with the Volvo models. It is a tiny two-door electric SUV with a tall body and compact footprint, making it more suited to urban use. In India, the VF3 is expected to sit below VinFast's larger electric SUVs and could target the affordable EV segment. It is likely to compete with models such as the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3 and MG Comet EV. Details about the India-spec battery pack, range, features and pricing are yet to be confirmed. The company is expected to reveal more information closer to its India launch.
