Tesla’s entry into India is one of the much talked-about and hottest topics in the market right now. The American luxury EV manufacturer recently finalized the location for its first showroom in Mumbai, which will be built on a 4,000 square feet area in Bandra Kurla Complex. It might begin its operations in the next three months, starring with an affordable electric car priced up to Rs USD 25,000 (Rs 21.71 lakh). Tesla cars in India will be imported from German, and manufactured at the carmaker’s Gigafactory Berlin – Brandenburg.
While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed its upcoming model lineup for India, it’s expected to include Model 3 and Model S. Let’s take a closer look at key details of these upcoming Tesla cars.
In global markets, the Tesla Model 3 is offered in multiple configurations – 57.5kWh RWD Single Motor, Long-Range 82kWh AWD Dual motors and Performance 82kWh Dual motors. The entry-level 57.5kWh RWD variant offers a claimed WLTP range of around 513km and a top speed of 201 kmph. It comes with a single rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor. It supports up to 170kW DC fast charging. The Long-Range AWD and Performance variants, equipped with 82kWh battery and dual motors, offer a claimed WLTP range of around 629km and 528km, respectively. These two variants can be charged by using up to 250kW DC fast charger.
Interestingly, the Tesla Model 3 has a drag coefficient of just 0.219 Cd, thus making it one of the most aerodynamic production cars. Unlike conventional cars, this electric sedan has no start/stop button. Instead, you just need to sit in the driver’s seat with a phone or key card, press the brake and it starts moving. Some of its other key features include an infotainment system supporting AAA gaming, a large panoramic glass roof, a built-in dashcam, OTA updates, Autopilot and full self driving capability, a premium sound system with 17-seapkers and 2 subwoofers, an 8-inch rear seat entertainment display, a 15.3-inch touchscreen for navigation, media, climate settings and vehicle configurations and more.
The Tesla Model S comes in two variants – Long Range and Plaid, both featuring a 100kWh battery pack. While the former delivers a maximum power of 670 bhp and 1,020 Nm of torque, the latter offers a massive 1,020 bhp and 1,420 Nm. The Long Range and Plaid variants deliver a claimed range of around 652km and 637km, respectively. The Model S can be charged for nearly 322km of range in 15 minutes via up to 250kW DC fast charging. Interestingly, it was the first mass-produced electric car with over 300 miles range.
This Tesla EV has been packed with several advanced features a 12.3-inch fully digital LCD, a horizontally placed 17-inch multi-touch display, a 12-way electrically adjustable, heated front seats with memory function, 60:40 split foldable rear seats, a premium sound system, advanced HVAC system with HEPA filtration, “Yoke” steering wheel, Autopilot and full self driving (FSD) capability, OTA updates, a panoramic glass roof, etc.
