New BMW iX5 - Biggest Battery Ever in a BMW EV

BMW iX5 will get a massive 141-144 kWh battery. Dual-motor AWD setup expected with up to 572 hp. Global debut likely in early 2027.

BMW is preparing to introduce the all-new iX5, which will become the first fully electric version of the popular X5 SUV. One of its biggest highlights will be a 141 kWh or 144 kWh battery pack, making it the largest battery ever fitted to a BMW electric vehicle.

The iX5 is expected to make its global debut in early 2027, while other versions of the next-generation X5 will follow later.

BMW's Biggest Battery Yet

The upcoming iX5 will be available with either a 141 kWh or 144 kWh battery, depending on the market. This is significantly larger than the batteries used in BMW's current electric models. The iX3, for example, gets a 112 kWh battery, while the iX uses a 105.2 kWh pack. BMW is also introducing an 800V electrical architecture, which will support faster charging and improved efficiency.

Powerful Dual-Motor Setup

The new iX5 is expected to come with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. International reports suggest the SUV could produce around 572 hp and 805 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 4.6 seconds. BMW has not yet revealed the official performance figures.

New Design and Premium Cabin

The next-generation iX5 will adopt BMW's latest Neue Klasse design language. The SUV is expected to feature slim LED headlights, a redesigned front fascia, connected LED tail-lamps, and large 23-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin could get BMW's new Panoramic iDrive display, a 17.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a redesigned steering wheel with the brand's latest interface.

More Powertrains to Follow

BMW will launch the all-electric iX5 first. Later, the company plans to introduce petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen-powered versions of the next-generation X5. The hydrogen model is being developed with Toyota and is expected to arrive in 2028.

India Launch

The next-generation BMW X5 is expected to reach India after its global debut. While BMW has not confirmed which versions will be offered here, the all-electric iX5 could eventually join the brand's growing EV portfolio in the country.
