Electric car and SUV sales in India are growing with each passing month. In February 2025, a total of 8,959 EVs were sold against 7,520 units during the same month last year, marking a 19 percent YoY growth. The cumulative 11-month EV sales figure stood at 94,500 units.
The electric SUV market is heating up with the arrival of new models, including the latest entrants such as Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e. Several new models are already in the pipeline, and three of them are all set to hit roads this month. Here is a brief on the much-awaited upcoming three electric SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki’s first ever electric offering – the e Vitara – will arrive in the coming weeks. However, its official launch date is yet to be announced. Based on the Heartect-e skateboard platform, the Maruti e Vitara gets two battery options – a 49kWh and a 61kWh – sourced from BYD. With the front axle mounted motors, these batteries deliver a maximum power of 143 bhp and 173 bhp, respectively. The torque output for both units remain the same at 192.5Nm. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the e Vitara (in its higher spec form) will return an MIDC-certified range of over 500km.
The interior of the Maruti e Vitara has a modern layout with advanced features such as a floating 10.25-inch infotainment and instrument displays, a 10.1-inch instrument cluster, part fabric and part leatherette upholstery, two-spoke flat bottom steering wheel, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, single zone auto climate control, 60:40 reclining and split rear seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and ADAS suite.
Ahead of the Vitara’s market launch, Maruti Suzuki has announced an ‘e for Me’ strategy, under which the carmaker will expand the EV network and infrastructure. The company will setup fast chargers across its dealerships in top 100 cities, introduce a dedicated charging app and establish over 1,5000 EV only service centres in more than 1,000 cities.
Tata Harrier EV will go on sale in March 2025. This electric SUV has been designed on Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture, which is essentially a heavily modified version of its ICE Omega platform. Specifications of the electric SUV are not available at this point; however, Tata has confirmed that it will deliver a maximum torque of 500 Nm. The interior layout and features of the Harrier EV will be identical to its ICE version. The EV will feature a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, cloud-connected telematics, new terrain modes, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2L) charging capabilities, over-the-air (OTA) updates, a touch-based panel for the HVAC controls, ADAS suite, multiple airbags and more.
Similar to the cabin, the exterior of the Tata Harrier EV shares resemblance with its ICE counterpart. However, a few changes differentiate the two models. The electric SUV features a newly-designed grille, revised front and rear bumpers with EV-specific elements, new dual-tone aero-optimized alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badging on the front doors and the tailgate.
Prices of the Tata Harrier EV are expected to start around Rs 25 lakh for the base variant and go up to Rs 30 lakh for the range-topping trim. At this price point, it will take on the newly-launched Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta Electric.
The 2025 Kia EV6 facelift made its public debut in January at the Bharat Mobility Show. The carmaker will introduce this electric crossover only in the GT-Line trim in March 2025. Bookings for the updated EV6 are already underway across the country. Similar to the current model, the updated one underpins the E-GMP platform. However, it features a larger 84kWh battery pack with two electric motors, delivering a combined power of 325 bhp and 605 Nm of torque.
This electric SUV promises a range of over 650km on a full charge. Compared to the current EV6, the facelifted model can be charged at faster speed. The carmaker claims that the 2025 Kia EV6 facelift takes just 18 minutes to get charge from 10 to 80 percent through a 350kW fast charger.
Significant changes have been made to its interior. The updated EV6 comes with a slightly revised two-spoke steering wheel, an updated HUD (head-up display) and a digital rear view mirror and a fingerprint sensor for keyless driver recognition. It continues to feature the curved dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability, ambient lighting, OTA updates, ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and more.
