Patent images of the upcoming BMW XM hybrid SUV leaked ahead of launch; First electrified M Sport vehicle will get plug-in hybrid V8 engine; Final render matches the concept design showcased Art Basel's 2021 in Miami.

Previewed as a concept in November 2021, the design of the production-ready BMW XM performance SUV has been leaked through patent images. The second bespoke M-model will join the German brand’s line-up after a long gap of 4 decades. Set for a global launch by the end of this year, this will be the first electrified M-model in the company’s history.

The production-spec XM doesn’t deviate much from its concept form in terms of design. The SUV gets the same split LED headlamp set-up like the new X7 and the 7-Series. The classic BMW kidney grille has shrunk in size, but is expected to get an illumination function from the concept version. The lower part of the front bumper carries a prominent air intake along with a radar for the ADAS functions. Towards the rear, the sleek LED tail lamps from the concept have been replaced by conventional units that extend to the sides of the car. Other highlights include vertically stacked quad exhaust set-up distinctive rear bumper design and aggressive wheel arches.

Although the exact details about the interiors are still under wraps, international media reports claim that the SUV will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment unit, based on the spy shots.

Under the hood, the XM SUV will feature a 4.4 litre V8 plug-in hybrid motor mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The system produce a combined power output of 650 bhp and peak torque of 800 Nm. The four-wheeler is also expected to get a performance-oriented model that will pump out 750 bhp and 1000 Nm torque. The SUV will be capable of doing an electric only range of 80 kilometres.
Upon its arrival, the BMW XM will take on other performance SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX 707 and the Bentley Bentayga.
