Volkswagen has already announced to launch the upgraded versions of the Taigun and Virtus sedan in India in 2025-26. In fact, testing of the VW Taigun facelift has already been started on our roads. However, Volkswagen is yet to start testing the Virtus facelift which is most likely to receive similar changes as its SUV sibling.
Skoda is also testing the upgraded Slavia and Kushaq; both likely to arrive in our market before the end of this financial year. VW will first launch the Taigun facelift in early 2026 while the Virtus facelift is expected to arrive in our market in by mid next year. Volkswagen is also working on a new sub-4 meter SUV based on the Skoda Kylaq. This compact SUV is also likely to launch in the second half of 2026.
As with most facelifts, the VW Virtus facelift will receive largely cosmetic changes along with new feature additions on the inside.
The new sedan is likely to come with new front and rear bumpers. The Virtus facelift will get the revised headlamp and tail-lamp units. It is not likely to receive any major sheet metal changes.
Inside the cabin, the sedan is likely to get new trim pieces, new interior scheme and new upholstery along with a new set of features. The German sedan is also likely to get a 360-degree surround view camera.
The 2026 Virtus is likely to come with a LEVEL 2 ADAS tech with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, auto high beam and others.
If rumours are to be believed, Volkswagen could add panoramic sunroof to the Virtus and Taigun line-up. However, nothing concrete has been revealed on the same. The outgoing models are equipped with a single pane sunroof.
The Virtus facelift is expected to remain mechanically unchanged. It will continue to be offered with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine options. While the former is good for 115hp and 178Nm, the 4-cylinder turbo unit produces 150hp and 250Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual as standard, a 7-speed DCT with the 1.5-litre turbo unit, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic with 1.0L unit.
