Three plug-in hybrid SUVs launching in India this year. Up to 1,200km combined range with electric-only driving capability.

Green mobility solutions are gradually gaining popularity among Indian buyers. In June 2026, a total of 31,253 units of electric vehicles were sold compared to 15,203 units in June 2025 and 27,977 units in May 2026, registering a massive 106 percent YoY (year-on-year) and 12 percent MoM (month-on-month) growth, respectively. Hybrid vehicles contributed 8.27 percent to the total alternative fuel-powered vehicles sales during the month.

 

In the coming months, the Indian automobile industry will witness the launch of several strong hybrid SUVs including three major PHEVs (plug-in hybrid vehicles). Here’s a quick look at the key details of the upcoming plug-in hybrid SUVs.

 

MG Starlight 560


Expected Price – Rs 25 lakh – Rs 35 lakh

 

JSW MG Motor India is set to unveil its first plug-in hybrid SUV on July 16, 2026. The model is likely to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is already on sale in Chinese market. Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound model is likely to feature a 1.5L petrol engine, paired with an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. The SUV offers an electric-only range of around 100km and a combined range of over 1100km. Its combined output stands at 197bhp and 230Nm.

 

Jetour T2


Expected Price – Rs 40 lakh – Rs 50 lakh

 

JSW Motors will enter the Indian market as an independent automobile brand during the Diwali season. Its first offering will be a rebadged Jetour T2 i-DM plug-in hybrid SUV. The model will come equipped with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine, dual electric motors and a 26.7kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a maximum power of 380bhp and 691Nm of torque. The SUV is claimed to offer an electric-only range of 100-139km and a total driving range of over 1,000km.

 

BYD Seal U


Expected Price – Rs 45 lakh – Rs 50 lakh

 

The BYD Seal U DM-I plug-in hybrid SUV will arrive towards the end of this year. The SUV uses a 1.5L turbo petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an 18.3kWh battery pack benefited with BYD’s Blade technology. It offers a combined power of 323bhp and 550Nm of torque. The Seal U promises a combined driving range of over 1200km.
