MG Motor is preparing to launch the next-generation MG ZS EV but with a fresh twist. The all-electric compact SUV, recently seen in the Chinese ES5 guise, is expected to arrive in India by 2025. Here's what Indian buyers should know about the upcoming electric SUV.
The new MG ZS EV successor will be built on the award-winning Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) platform, which is known for its efficient electric powertrains and modern design. It will sport a bold appearance with slim headlights, black cladding for an SUV feel and a sleek-looking chrome MG badge on the front. It’s designed to appeal to urban buyers looking for a stylish yet practical electric vehicle (EV).

Compared to the current ZS EV, the upcoming model is expected to be larger and roomier. With a length of 4,476mm and a wheelbase of 2,730mm, it offers a more spacious cabin. It is also wider and slightly lower than the current model, which will enhance its road presence.
The new MG electric SUV will likely come with multiple battery options, just like the MG4, giving buyers the flexibility to choose based on range and performance needs. The long-range variant is expected to offer over 300 miles (around 480 km) on a single charge, making it ideal for long-distance travel. There could also be an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version for those who want more traction and power but there is no confirmation yet.
Pricing will play a key role in the Indian market and MG is expected to price this SUV competitively. We expect it to carry a starting price under Rs 25 lakh, positioning it against the BYD Atto 3. MG’s strategy will be to offer a feature-packed electric SUV at a more accessible price point for Indian consumers. The MG ZS EV is currently 30-40% localised, however, the brand will look to increase the same to keep costs in check. MG’s joint venture with JSW will help models like Windsor EV to have over 80% localisation, CEO Emeritus Rajeev Chaba said. It may be made available in India with the brand's battery rental scheme, known as BaaS.
