New Bharat e-Charge App Could Simplify EV Charging in India

Bharat e-Charge app could make EV charging easier in India New app may combine multiple charging networks on one platform Government also approves 4,874 new EV chargers nationwide

The Government of India is working on a new app called Unified Bharat e-Charge (UBC) to make EV charging easier for users across the country.

The announcement was made by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy during the National EV Charging Conference in Bengaluru.

The app is expected to help EV owners find charging stations, use them, and make payments through one platform.

One App for All Charging Stations

Right now, many EV users need different apps for different charging companies. This can become confusing and time-consuming.

The Bharat e-Charge app aims to solve this problem by bringing multiple charging networks together in one place.

With this app, users may be able to check charger locations, availability, and payment options without switching between different platforms.

The government says the app could work like UPI, making EV charging simple and smooth for users.

EV Charging Network Expanding in India

Along with the new app, the government has also approved 4,874 new EV chargers across India.

These chargers will be installed in states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Companies like HPCL, IOCL, and BPCL will handle the installation work.

The new charging stations are expected to support electric two-wheelers, cars, buses, and trucks.

Part of PM E-Drive Scheme

The charging expansion is part of the PM E-Drive scheme, which focuses on improving EV adoption and infrastructure in India.

The scheme has a total budget of Rs 10,900 crore. A major part of this amount has been kept for EV charging stations, EV purchase incentives, and electric buses.

The government believes better charging access will encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles.
