Top 10 Car Sales June 2026 - Tata Beats Mahindra, Maruti Stays No.1

Maruti Suzuki remained India's No.1 carmaker in June 2026. Tata Motors stayed ahead of Mahindra in second place. Hyundai, Toyota and Kia completed the top five.

India's passenger vehicle market continued to post healthy numbers in June 2026, with most major carmakers registering year-on-year (YoY) growth. While a few brands witnessed a decline compared to May, the overall market remained strong, led by continued demand for SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki retained its position as the country's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, while Tata Motors managed to stay ahead of Mahindra in a closely fought battle for second place. Hyundai remained fourth despite a drop in sales, and Toyota completed the top five.

Maruti Suzuki Continues To Lead

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,47,187 passenger vehicles in June 2026, recording a 23.78% YoY growth. Although sales were lower than May 2026, the company remained comfortably ahead of every other manufacturer.

SUVs such as the Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, XL6, Jimny, Invicto, Victoris and e Vitara continued to drive volumes, while hatchbacks and sedans including the Swift, WagonR, Baleno, Dzire, Alto and Celerio, also contributed significantly.

Tata Motors Holds On To Second Spot

Tata Motors reported domestic passenger vehicle sales of 62,076 units, marking an impressive 67.4% YoY growth. The company stayed ahead of Mahindra by 1,683 units, continuing the intense competition between the two brands.

June was also an important month for Tata as it launched the new Sierra EV and announced a price hike of up to 1.5% across its ICE and EV lineup from July 1.

Mahindra Remains Close Behind

Mahindra sold 60,393 SUVs in June, registering a 27.66% YoY increase. The company's growth was supported by strong demand for models like the Scorpio-N, Thar, XUV 3XO and XUV 7XO.

The brand has maintained strong momentum throughout the year and continues to narrow the gap with Tata Motors.

Hyundai Sales Affected By Supply Issues

Hyundai recorded sales of 39,635 units, reflecting a 9.97% decline compared to June last year.

The company said production was impacted after a fire at one of its supplier's facilities, resulting in a production loss of nearly 13,900 units. Despite this setback, the Creta, Venue and Exter remained its biggest volume drivers.

Toyota Continues Steady Growth

Toyota sold 28,441 units in June, registering a 7.52% YoY growth.

The Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Glanza continued to contribute strongly to the company's monthly sales. Toyota is also preparing to launch the new-generation Hilux in India later this month.

Kia Maintains Strong Momentum

Kia posted domestic sales of 24,552 units, up 19.04% over June 2025.

The Seltos and Sonet remained the brand's best-selling models, while the Carens Clavis and Syros also supported volumes. During the month, Kia also introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme for the Carens Clavis EV.

Renault was among the biggest gainers in June, with sales rising 54.78% to 4,063 units. The company has also started exports of the new Duster and is set to launch the Kwid facelift on July 3.
