4 All-New Maruti Utility Vehicles Coming Soon - Y43 Micro SUV to YMC MPV

Maruti Suzuki to launch Y43 micro SUV and 7-Seat Grand Vitara Maruti YMC 7-seater electric MPV to arrive in 2027

In order to further strengthen its position as the leading carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce 4 all-new utility vehicles, including two new SUVs and two MPVs in the Indian market over the period of next couple of years. The company is targeting to achieve 50% market share, and is betting big on its existing and upcoming UV range. A brand new micro SUV, codenamed Y43 and a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara will soon join the brand’s SUV line-up. Adding to it, Maruti will introduce a sub-4 meter MPV and an all-new 7-seater electric MPV in the country.

Maruti Y43 Micro SUV

Maruti Suzuki is preparing a new micro SUV, codenamed Y43, which will be positioned below the Fronx crossover. It will be launched as a replacement for the Ignis crossover, and will directly rival the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. If reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Suzuki micro SUV is expected to carry an upright SUV styling, and will be loaded with high-end features. The new micro SUV will continue to have multiple powertrain options.

It is likely to be offered with mild-hybrid, CBG/CNG and electric powertrains. The new micro SUV is expected to be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform that also underpins the Swift, Fronx, Baleno and Dzire. We expect the new SUV to get a 1.2L, 3-cylinder, petrol engine with a mild-hybrid setup. The micro SUV will appeal primarily to first-time car buyers looking for a compact SUV with a high ground clearance.

7-Seater Grand Vitara

MSIL is preparing a new 3-row SUV to challenge the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. Codenamed Y17, the new SUV is basically a stretched version of the Grand Vitara. The SUV is expected to be launched sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. The new 3-row SUV will utilise the modified version of the Global C-platform, which underpins the Grand Vitara. It will ride on a longer wheelbase, and will have an extended rear overhang to accommodate third-row seat.

The SUV line-up will be offered with the existing 1.5L K15C mild petrol hybrid and 1.5 TNGA Atkinson strong hybrid powertrain options. While the former will
come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox options, the latter will get the same eCVT automatic transmission. The CNG fuel option will also be on offer. Similar to the Grand Vitara, the 7-seater SUV will also get an AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) layout.

7-Seater Maruti YMC electric MPV

Maruti Suzuki is preparing its second pure electric vehicle for the Indian market. Codenamed YMC, the new EV will be a 7-seater MPV to challenge the Kia Carens Clavis EV. The new Maruti Suzuki 7-seater electric MPV is reportedly to be revealed next year at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The new MPV is also likely to preview design of the next Ertiga MPV.

Codenamed YMC, the upcoming 7-seater electric MPV will share its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. It is likely to come with the same 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options. However, the larger size could impact its realistic range. The electric motor and other powertrain components will also be shared with the e Vitara. It is likely to be offered with 6 and 7-seat layout with former having captain seats in the second row.

Maruti YDB MPV

Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new entry-level MPV, which will be based on the Suzuki Spacia on sale in Japan. Codenamed YDB, the new 3-row Maruti Suzuki MPV is expected to be launched sometime in 2027-28. The Spacia is a 3.4 meter long mini van, but India-spec model will be stretched up to 4 meters. Instead of sliding doors, the India-spec model could get regular doors with sliding function in 2nd row seats to access the last row. This new MPV is expected to be sold through NEXA premium dealership network.

The company is developing a new Series hybrid powertrain, which is claimed to be cheaper than the parallel or Series-parallel hybrid engines. The hybrid system is likely to comprise the new Z12E, 1.2L 3-cylinder engine, a 1.5-2kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The 1.2L 3-cylinder engine will act as a generator to charge the small battery pack, while the electric motor will drive the front wheels.
