BYD founder Wang Chuanfu has announced a new Super E-Platform in a live-streamed event held at the brand headquarters in Shenzhen. He explained that this new charging platform would support a much quicker change of 1,000 kW. This will allow the electric vehicle to be charged in 5 minutes for a range of up to 400 km.
As there has been an increase in electric vehicle users the charging time is needed to be reduced. Currently, the charging takes about 30 mins as a standard which is not as convenient.
This new fast-charging technology by BYD will help EV owners spend the same amount as the ICE models at the charging station. The Super E-Platform will be two times faster than Tesla's TSLA.O which offers 500 kW charging speed.
It has been said that this new architecture would be making its way in the market with two new electric cars, the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV. Along with that, the brand is planning to expand the fast charging networks across China, with over 4,000 units to cater to the new platform.
The Super E-Platform will be a game changer for the global electric car market with lessening periods of time spent at charging stations. Also, this technology would put BYD ahead of Tesla in the competition for faster charging.
