It is no secret that Honda is selling the new Elevate SUV as the WR-V in Japan. The SUV will also reach new places including Brazil, where it has been caught testing for the first time. The big news is that Honda is testing the hybrid version of the SUV. The prototype was heavily camouflaged and was caught testing mechanical components around Palmas in heat of over 40 degrees.
The report claims that the test driver fueled the model with ethanol, suggesting that the spotted model could be equipped with the 126hp, 1.5 i-VTEC flex engine. The new model measures 4,312mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,650mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,650mm. The SUV has a ground clearance of 220mm, which is highest in its category. It also offers a boot space of 458-litres.
The new Honda Elevate or WR-V will go on sale in the Brazilian markets in the second half of 2025. Production of the SUV will begin at Honda's Itirapina (SP) plant. The SUV will be positioned between the City hatchback and HR-V, and will help Honda to establish itself in the competitive compact SUV segment.
For people not in the know, the Honda Elevate in our market is only available with a single 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the City sedan. This engine produces 119bhp and 145Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Honda Cars India had said that the Elevate hybrid won't be introduced in our market. Instead, the company will launch the Elevate based electric SUV by 2026.
The rising demand for hybrids and fuel efficient cars, Honda could re-think about its strategy of not launching the hybrid Elevate. The Honda Elevate hybrid could prove to be a big success for the Japanese brand. In fact, MSIL and Toyota are looking at hybrid cars to drive sales in the Indian market. Hyundai and Kia are also planning to launch hybrid cars in our market.
The Honda Elevate comes equipped with advanced driver assistance system with features like adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure warning and automatic high beam assist. The SUV also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless smartphone charging.
