Hyundai Bayon to challenge Hyundai Creta New EV to rival the Tata Nexon EV Both SUVs will be launched this financial year
The Korean automaker, Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch two new SUVs in the Indian market before the end of FY2027. If media reports are to be believed, Hyundai will launch an all-new mid-sized SUV and a new compact electric SUV in the country. The new mid-sized SUV will be positioned between the Venue and Creta, and will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. On the flip side, the electric compact SUV will challenge the dominance of the Tata Nexon EV.
The new Hyundai mid-size SUV will be the India-spec version of the next-gen Bayon, which has already been caught testing in South Korea. The existing Hyundai Bayon looks like a jagged-up hatchback, but the next-gen model will have a taller, boxier stance, and its design will be more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language. It is expected to measure around 4.2 meters in length, as the next-gen Hyundai Creta will measure close to 4.5 meters in length.
Spy images reveal that the next-gen Hyundai Bayon will have a split headlamp setup with “ice-cube” LED projector headlamps with a high-mounted LED daytime running lamps, 16-inch alloys, chunky body cladding, sharply raked tailgate with prominent integrated spoiler, and new connected LED tail-lights.
The new SUV is likely to be powered by a naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with a CNG powertrain with a dual-cylinder setup. It will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters to get a CNG powertrain. It will come with a tech-laden interior along with adaptive driver assistance system.

Hyundai has already confirmed that it will launch a locally developed electric SUV in the Indian market. This SUV will be designed, engineered and built in India for Indian customers. Codenamed HE1i, the new electric SUV will sit under 4 meters, and will directly rival the Tata Nexon EV. It will sit on the E-GMP (K) platform that also underpins the Inster EV on sale in global markets.
The new Hyundai electric compact SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu. It will source the localised batteries from Exide. It could come with standard range and long range versions, and expect a range of up to 500km on a single charge.
