Hyundai Exter based EV In The Works? Inster Inspired!

It is no secret that Hyundai is developing a range of electric vehicles for the Indian market. The locally developed Hyundai Creta EV is scheduled to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2025, most probably in January. The company could also introduce the Exter sub-compact SUV based electric car in the country in the next couple of years.

Hyundai has already revealed the Inster electric micro SUV, which is essentially the EV derivative of the Casper micro SUV. Hyundai is selling a slightly elongated version of the Casper, called the Hyundai Exter in the Indian market. This small SUV directly rivals the Tata Punch, which also has an electric version in the market.

Going by the market trends, we expect that Hyundai could launch an electric derivative of the Exter micro SUV in the Indian market. The Hyundai Exter EV  is likely to retain the overall styling; however, it could receive EV-specific design changes.

Hyundai Inster EV

The Hyundai Exter EV is likely to share the battery pack and electric motor with the Inster EV. It is equipped with a 42kWh battery pack as standard. The long-range version is also revealed with a 49kWh battery pack; however, it will come as an option. Both models are offered with front-axle mounted electric motors. The motor in the standard variants offer 97PS, while the same motor in the Long range model offers 115PS. The powertrain offers a peak torque of 147Nm.

The Hyundai Inster Long Range model is claimed to offer a range of 355km on a single charge. It also supports a 120kW DC charger, which charges the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. There is an 11kW on-board charger as standard. It also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.
