Hyundai Exter Crosses 50,000 Bookings in India

Hyundai Cars, India’s second-largest automaker, has just announced that the Exter has received over 50,000 bookings. The micro-SUV was launched last month, receiving 11,000 bookings on the first day. Since then, over 40,000 orders have been added in the last 30 days.

Hyundai Exter: Runaway Success

Hyundai Exter

Tarun Garg, Hyundai India COO, said, "The response to the Exter is euphoric, so much so that the bookings have zoomed from 10,000 pre-orders before the launch, to over 50,000 in less than 30 days of the Exter going on sale,". He added, "The Exter has redefined benchmarks in this segment by offering customers superior safety with six airbags as standard while offering active safety systems like ESC, and hill-assist control across all trims as options," he added.

One of the biggest reasons for Exter’s success is its aggressive pricing of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions the Exter not only in the micro-SUV segment but also against similarly priced hatchbacks like the Maruti Swift and Wagon R. Hyundai has also stated that more than 75% of the bookings are for the sunroof-equipped variants of the Exter.

Hyundai Exter: Powertrain Details

The Exter is available with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine that is available in both petrol and CNG guises. It makes 83 bhp with 114 Nm of peak torque in the petrol variants and 69 bhp with 95.2 Nm of max torque in the CNG models. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.

Hyundai: Production Increased

Anticipating the strong demand for the Exter, Hyundai has already increased the production capacity of its Tamil Nadu plant by 50,000 units, reaching 825,000 units annually. With the plant nearly reaching its maximum capacity of 850,000 units, Hyundai is planning to take over General Motors’ vacant India plant near Pune. The automaker is expected to sign a commercial agreement in the coming weeks.
