Next-gen Hyundai i20 debut likely in July To be offered with petrol engine options
We reported earlier that the next-generation Hyundai i20 hatchback will make its global debut this year, most probably around the FIFA World Cup. Hyundai has released a new teaser image, which is reportedly to be the next-gen i20 hatchback. The new model will be produced in Piracicaba (SP), along with the current HB200, HB20S and Creta.
The teaser shows some details of the front, featuring the unique headlight with the brand’s exclusive “H-Architecture” signature for the assembly, and the Seamless Lighting Technology, which connects the headlights through a continuous LED light strip across the entire front of the vehicle.
We reported earlier that Hyundai has fast paced the development process for the new compact hatchback. It has been undergoing rigorous testing, and reports suggest that Hyundai has enlisted the expertise of Continental to make adjustments to its gasoline engines.
It was speculated that the new i20 will come with an all-new 1.6-litre hybrid engine that debuted in the new Seltos. Adding to it, the hatchback was reportedly to receive the higher level of electrification. However, the 2027 Hyundai i20 won’t receive a hybrid or electric powertrain. The hatchback will continue to be offered with the 1.2L NA petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines. Hyundai is also developing a new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, which could power the new i20 and the next-gen Bayon.
The spy images suggest that the 2027 Hyundai i20 has undergone a radical transformation, and it will be longer, wider and lower than the outgoing model. The spy shots of the new 2027 Hyundai i20 will have a slightly arched light signature, and there is a horizontal section that spans the entire tailgate and connecting with the opposite taillight. The new model will also debut a more sophisticated cockpit.
