Hyundai to launch an electric compact SUV this Diwali New Bayon to arrive in Q1, 2027 Next-gen Creta testing begins in India

Hyundai Motor India is adopting an aggressive approach to regain its lost market share. The South Korea auto giant has been testing three highly anticipated SUVs on the Indian roads. These three SUVs, including a mass-market EV, a new mid-size SUV and the next-gen Creta - will be launched in our market by 2027. Hyundai is adopting multi-powertrain strategy with an electric compact SUV in a sub-4 meter segment, a new mid-size SUV with CNG tech, and the next-gen Creta with a strong hybrid engine.

New Electric Compact SUV: Launch by Diwali

Hyundai is preparing to launch a new sub-4 meter electric SUV to rival the Tata Nexon EV. Based on the global Inster EV, the new electric SUV will be designed and developed for Indian market. It will carry a boxy design with rugged elements and high ground clearance. Built on a localised version of the K1 platform, the new Hyundai electric SUV is expected to be offered with 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery options, targeting a real-world driving range of around 350-400 km.

Bayon SUV: Launch by March 2027

Hyundai is bringing the next-generation Bayon SUV to challenge the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. The SUV will grow in size, and will measure around 4.2 meters in length. It will be offered with a naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox. The big news is that the new Bayon will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters in length to get a CNG option.

Hyundai is also developing a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, which is claimed to be hybrid ready. The SUV could also get the new engine later. Hyundai has confirmed that the new SUV will be launched before the end of this financial year, before March 2027.

Next-gen Creta: 2027

2027 Hyundai Creta Spied

While the current Creta continues to dominate sales charts, Hyundai has already kicked off extensive public testing for the ground-up, third-generation Creta. The next-gen Hyundai Creta will feature a noticeably longer wheelbase, freeing up significant rear legroom and expanding boot capacity. It is expected that the new Creta length will grow from 4330mm to nearly 4500mm. The usable boot space could increase up to 450-460-litres.

The next-gen Creta will be built on the global K3 platform instead of the SP2 architecture. It is claimed to be stronger and offers improved structural rigidity and safety. The 2027 Hyundai Creta will continue to be offered with existing engine options, including a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel. The biggest change will come in the form of a hybrid powertrain. It will come with an all-new strong hybrid engine, which is likely to use the 1.5L NA petrol engine, two electric motors and a small battery pack.
