Jeep Jeepster SUV interiors spied during test run; Expected to be available in the petrol guise at launch; Gets a 10.25-inch free-standing infotainment unit
Jeep’s baby SUV, the Jeepster has been yet again spied doing test runs on Indian roads. Expected to be unveiled at the 2022 Paris Motor Show in October, the interiors of the ICE-powered version was revealed in a series of new spy shots.
Going by the latest spy shots, the sub-compact SUV will get an all-digital instrument cluster, similar to the one on Peugeot 2008 internationally. The highlight on this inside will be the new 10.25-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit with connected car technology. The AC vents are placed horizontally, stretching across the width of the dashboard along with a new storage space below it. Unlike many recent cars, Jeep’s baby SUV is expected to continue housing a variety of physical buttons which control various aspects of the car. In addition to this, the four-wheeler is expected to borrow bits and bobs like the shifter knob and the infotainment UI from more expensive Jeep cars.
In terms of design, the Jeepster will carry forward the company’s legacy with a boxier and upright design theme. The EV and the ICE version will sport the same design expect for powertrain specific enhancements. Some of the exterior design elements include the brand’s signature 7-slat grille, prominent air dams, flared wheeler arches and all-LED headlamps among other bits.
Built on the second-gen Stellantis Group’s eCMP modular platform, the SUV is expected to come with both ICE and EV powertrain options. The four-wheeler shares its underpinnings with the recently launched Citroen C3. In addition, it will also come with an electronic all-wheel drive (eAWD) system as an option. The petrol mild hybrid trim will be powered by a 1.2-litre PURETECH turbo petrol engine, while the all-electric powertrain is expected to make use of a 50kW battery pack with power output rated at around 130 bhp.
Once launched, the Jeepster will rival the likes of Tata Punch and Citroen C3 in its segment.
