In a recently published document, Jeep's parent company, Stellantis, and the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) gave the world a peek into what's coming for some of the company's American-made cars, like the Wrangler. At present, the Jeep Wrangler lineup includes a plug-in hybrid called the 4xe. As for the upcoming model, it will get plug-in hybrid systems in 2025, however, will be phased out gradually in 2028, the document revealed. Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler: Expected to Bring Two Powertrains Codenamed J70, the new Jeep Wrangler, set to start production in 2028, will have two engine choices – an electric one (BEV) and another with extended range. This marks a significant change for the American off-road vehicle, the most notable since it first went global in the 1980s. BEV stands for battery electric vehicle, whereas REPB (Range Electric Paradigm Breaker) is the pompous way of saying that a combustion engine will be used as a generator. The REPB powertrain will debut in the Ram 1500 (a pickup truck based on the STLA Frame platform) shortly, which is also expected to underpin the new Wrangler EV. Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler: Power of its STLA Platform Part of a new family of EV architectures being applied to all Stellantis products from next year, this body-on-frame platform will major in payload and towing capabilities. For instance, its 1500 REV claims a 1,224kg payload and a 6,350kg towing capacity. The STLA Frame can also accommodate vast batteries to cope with the traditionally high mileage and heavy workloads of commercial vehicles. Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler: Battery Details The 1500 REV will be offered with two long-range electric powertrains, with 168kWh and 229kWh batteries delivering about 560km and 800km between charges. Jeep has also hinted at what to expect from an electric Wrangler several times, most recently with the Magneto 3.0 concept, which is a Wrangler-based off-roader. It has the capability to deliver 647 bhp of power and 1220 Nm from a bespoke axial-flux motor, mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler: What More to Expect? Before the electric Wrangler hits the scene, Jeep is also gearing up to introduce an electric off-roader called the Recon SUV. Revealed a year ago, Jeep now confirms that the Recon will run on Stellantis' special STLA Large electric platform. This rugged vehicle will feature Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management, under-body protection, an e-locker axle, sturdy off-road tires, and tow hooks. Jeep India has officially announced that the Meridian SUV will receive a facelift this year. It is basically the 3-row version of the Compass SUV. In terms of pricing, the new Meridian will target a wide range of 7-seater SUVs starting from Mahindra XUV700 to Toyota Fortuner. Jeep Meridian Facelift: What to Expect? The Meridian facelift is expected to feature subtle design changes such as refreshed front and rear bumpers, new grille, and an updated alloy wheel design. New exterior colour options will also be available. In addition to the cosmetic updates, the Meridian facelift is expected to include several features introduced in the Compass Night Eagle edition. With this update, the SUV will get a 12.3-inch infotainment unit with new UI, Level 2 ADAS suite, rear window blinds, etc. For reference, the existing model gets a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Powertrain Options The Jeep Meridian facelift will most likely to retain its engine and gearbox combination. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed torque convertor automatic unit. The automatic variants are also likely to come with AWD setup. In the near future, the SUV will also get a petrol engine. Price Details Presently, the Jeep Meridian is priced between Rs 33.60 lakh-39.66 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with benefits of up to Rs 2.80 lakh this month. The facelift model may get a slight price increase. The launch timeline is yet to be revealed, but we expect the new Meridian to go on sale by festive season that is before Diwali. Jeep is all set to introduce the updated Wrangler in the Indian market. It is expected to make its debut this month, probably on April 22. Before its official price announcement, details regarding the variants and colour choices have come out on the Internet.. 2024 Jeep Wrangler: Variants and Colour Options The upcoming Jeep Wrangler will be available in two variants namely Unlimited and Rubicon. Customers will also have the choice between five colours. These include Firecracker Red, Bright White, Black, Sarge Green, and the new Anvil. Design and Features In terms of exterior updates, the new Wrangler will feature a redesigned front fascia with a seven-slat grille, a windshield made of Gorilla Glass, and a choice of 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the off-roader will offer a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system powered by the Uconnect 5 system and a new digital instrument panel. Other notable features include 12-way power-adjustable front seats, a noise cancellation system equipped with 7 microphones and an Alpine-sourced audio system. An ADAS suite will also be on offer. Engine Options Regarding the powertrain, there are no changes made by the manufacturer. The SUV will continue to carry a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic torque converter unit. This engine is capable of producing 268 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
