Kia Motors India is planning to expand its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its new offerings. According to recent media reports, the car brand intends to roll out two new mass-market EVs in the country within the next 18 months. As disclosed by the company's President & CEO, Ho Sung Song, one of these will be Kia's highly popular model, the Carens. While the details of the second model are still under wraps.
Reports also suggest that the manufacturer will unveil a mass-market electric SUV possibly named Kia Clavis (internally known as AY-EV) upon its debut in the latter part of 2025. Simultaneously, the brand is preparing to introduce the Carens-based EV, referred to as the KY-EV.
What is intriguing is that the South Korean automaker is also set to launch the petrol-powered AY SUV by the first half of 2025. It is believed that they are projecting combined sales of 50,000-60,000 units for both EVs by 2026.
Looking ahead, Kia has ambitious plans to release a total of 15 EV models by 2027. This year will witness the debut of the EV3, followed by subsequent launches such as the EV2, EV4, and EV5. These will be targeting major markets for a total of 6 mass-market offerings.
Recently, Kia also revealed an updated version of its 3-row MPV, the Carens. With a starting price of Rs 12.11 lakh (ex-showroom), this refreshed model introduces 9 additional variants, bringing the total number to 30. The upgrades include a new diesel engine option, a range of fresh features, and additional exterior colour choices.
