Mahindra is preparing to give its popular lifestyle SUV a fresh update. The Thar Roxx facelift has been spotted testing, hinting at the first major update for the 5-door Thar since its launch. With Mahindra also working on updates for the Scorpio N and the 3-door Thar, the Thar Roxx is next in line for attention.

The Thar Roxx is still relatively new, but Mahindra is known for introducing new variants and powertrain options midway through a model’s lifecycle. Recent test mules suggest that the upcoming update could focus more on mechanical changes rather than cosmetic tweaks.
These sightings have sparked fresh speculation around what Mahindra could be planning for the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift line-up.

Currently, the Thar Roxx is offered with a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. What’s missing is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that is already available on the 3-door Thar RWD. This engine has proven to be a popular and efficient option.
If introduced, a 1.5-litre diesel Thar Roxx could become the new entry-level variant. This would make the SUV more accessible to buyers who love the Thar’s bold design and road presence but don’t necessarily need hardcore off-road capability.
At present, the Thar Roxx starts at Rs 12.25 lakh for the petrol RWD and Rs 13.48 lakh for the diesel RWD (ex-showroom). Adding a smaller diesel engine could help Mahindra lower the starting price and attract more customers. This strategy has worked well for Mahindra in the past, especially with the 3-door Thar, which gained popularity after new variants were introduced.

In terms of features, the Mahindra Thar Roxx facelift is unlikely to see major additions. The SUV is already well-equipped across variants and doesn’t urgently need extra features to stay competitive.
That said, many buyers would welcome an automatic gearbox with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, something that is currently missing even on the 3-door Thar.
Mahindra is developing hybrid powertrains, but the chances of the Thar Roxx getting one soon remain low. Reports suggest Mahindra may introduce hybrids on a new platform instead of updating existing models like the Thar Roxx.
The Thar Roxx enjoys a strong niche in the lifestyle SUV segment. However, upcoming models like the Tata Sierra could increase competition. A more affordable Thar Roxx, introduced as part of this facelift, could help Mahindra protect its position.
While Mahindra has not officially confirmed any details yet, frequent test sightings suggest that the Mahindra Thar facelift update for the Roxx is well underway and could arrive as part of the Mahindra Thar facelift 2026 launch cycle.
