The Indian automobile industry is shifting towards electrification, encouraged by the government’s new policies, efforts by OEMs and the arrival of new products. Mahindra & Mahindra, with an aim to become a leading EV manufacturer, has planned a range of new born-electric models along with ICE to EV conversions. Earlier, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director Auto and Farm at Mahindra & Mahindra revealed that the company electric SUVs to make up 20 percent to 30 percent of its product portfolio by 2027.
The indigenous automaker showcased the Thar.e and Scorpio N Global Pik Up concepts in 2023. While there are no official words on their launch, the models are expected undergo production and hit Indian roads in future. Previously, Mahindra confirmed that it’s two ICE SUVs will be electrified in the coming years. However, the company remained tight-lipped about the product name and details. Speculations suggest that the Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio SUVs might be introduced with the ‘.e’ moniker.
Mahindra currently has 10 SUVs in its lineup including petrol, diesel and electric models. Recently, Mahindra introduced its first-born electric SUVs – BE 6 and XEV 9e, which will soon be joined by the XUV 3XO EV (ICE turned EV) and XEV 7e (electric XUV700).
The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is expected to come with two battery pack options – 34.5kWh and 39.5kWh – and an electric motor producing 150PS and 310Nm. The compact electric SUV is expected to deliver a range over 450km. The spy images reveal that the EV will have slightly different front and rear profile than the ICE version. It will feature a blanked-off grille, copper-coloured roof and badging, charging port at the front fender, newly-designed alloy wheels and connected LED light.
The Mahindra XEV 7e will share a strong resemblance with its ICE counterpart (XUV700), while deriving some design elements from the XEV 9e electric SUV. In fact, the powertrain setup might also be carried forward from the XEV 9e, which is available with the 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs, offering MIDC claimed range of 542km and 656km, respectively.

Seeing the growing demand for hybrid cars, popular mass-market car manufacturers like Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra and Renault are planning to launch hybrid SUVs in India.
