Following suit, Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Grand Vitara CNG in the Indian market in early December 2022. The pricing for the Grand Vitara CNG is expected to be announced after the official launch of its sibling the Toyota Hyryder CNG which is scheduled to go on sale in the upcoming weeks. Grand Vitara CNG is going to be the first Maruti Suzuki car model to offer customers with a choice of mild-hybrid petrol, strong-hybrid petrol and CNG powertrain options.

Maruti has been preparing Brezza CNG for a while now but sources reported that Grand Vitara CNG could be launched first in the market. This rumor was confirmed when Toyota announced the launch of its first CNG models for India. The Grand Vitara CNG will also be the third NEXA product to join the greener fuel network following the Baleno hatchback and XL6 MPV.

According to the sources, both CNG versions of Hyryder and Grand Vitara SUVs will be available with a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine. The same engine is provided on the Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG and produces 88 bhp. The Hyryder CNG and Grand Vitara CNG will be available with a five-speed manual gearbox. However, an automatic option might come to the powertrain at a later date. The new powertrain is expected to return around 26.10 km/kg making it one of the most fuel efficient SUVs in the country.

Toyota has already disclosed that the Hyryder CNG will appear in two variants. In the case of Maruti, we can expect the Grand Vitara CNG to have a wider variant lineup; Sigma, Delta and Zeta trims.
In terms of pricing, we expect the Grand Vitara CNG to demand a premium of around Rs 75,000 to Rs 95,000 over the petrol mild-hybrid version. Stay tuned for more updates!
