Mercedes-Benz India today rolled out two electric SUVs – EQS 450 and G 580 Edition One – at Rs 1.28 crore and Rs 3 crore, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom. Both these EVs will make their public debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in New Delhi. Bookings for the EQS are already underway and its deliveries will start in February. The carmaker has confirmed that the Mercedes G 580 Edition One is sold out till the third quarter of 2025.
Let’s check out all the key details of the new Mercedes EQS 450 and Mercedes G 580 electric SUVs.
Compared to the EQS 580 7-seater, the EQS 450 is the 5-seater and more affordable variant of the SUV. The powertrain setup of the electric SUV consists of a 122kWh battery pack and two permanently excited synchronous (PSM) motors, one on each axle. The electric motors deliver a combined power output of 360bhp and 800Nm of torque.
The Mercedes EQS 450 is claimed to return a MIDC range of 820 km and accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 6.1 seconds. Compared to the EQS 580, this new variant is slightly less powerful and slower. However, its range is higher than the 580. The carmaker says that the EQS 450 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes by using a 200kW DC fast charger and 0 to 100 percent by using a 22kW AC wall box charger.
In terms of features, the Mercedes EQS 450 offers a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and front passenger screen, a 5-speaker Burmester audio system, multi-zone automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, soft-close doors, illuminated running boards, puddle lamps, nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), 21-inch black alloy wheels, etc.
This electric off-road SUV uses a 116kWh battery pack paired with four electric motors, delivering a claimed range of 473km (WLTP cycle). Its battery can be charged in just 32 minutes from 10 to 80 percent via a fast charger. Its combined power and torque outputs stand at 587bhp and 1,164Nm, respectively. The G 580 is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 4.7 seconds, and attain a top speed of 180kmph. The SUV has two-speed gearbox for performing transmission duties.
Features such as the virtual mechanical differential locks, a rear rigid axle, a low-range transmission, G-Turn, G-Steering and an off-road crawl function enhance its off-road capabilities. The SUV has a water-wading capacity of 850mm. Mercedes says that the electric SUV’s drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.44 when compared to the G 450.
The Mercedes G 580 has been packed with twin 12.3-inch screens (for the infotainment system and instrumentation) running on the Mercedes MBUX multimedia system, a steering wheel with mounted adaptive cruise control button along with heating, ventilation and AC controls and several new-age goodies. This off-road electric SUV has a luggage space of 555 litres with no provision for frunk. Instead of the boot-mounted spare wheel, there is a charging cable holder.
