New Renault Duster is finally here in a fresh avatar, and this time, it’s coming with three petrol engine options. Set to launch in spring 2026, the New-Gen Duster will ditch diesel power and instead offer three petrol engine options, including a strong-hybrid setup. With a focus on efficiency and performance, the India-spec Renault Duster will take on turbo-petrol and hybrid rivals in the midsize SUV segment.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the Renault Duster engine options in India and what each one offers.
The India-spec Renault Duster will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol, and a strong-hybrid petrol engine. These engines will offer a mix of performance, efficiency and modern tech in the Renault Duster 2026 specs.

The entry-level engine on the Renault Duster 2026 will be the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. This engine is already familiar, as it is also used in the Nissan Magnite.
It produces 100hp and will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This option is likely to be the most affordable and will suit those who want a simple, no-nonsense petrol SUV for daily use.
The second engine option is the more powerful 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol motor. It delivers 163hp and a strong 280Nm of torque, making it the most performance-focused engine in the New Renault Duster line-up.
This engine will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Thanks to its high torque output, it should offer strong acceleration and better highway performance compared to the smaller turbo-petrol unit.
The highlight of the 2026 Renault Duster range is the strong-hybrid petrol engine. Renault has now officially confirmed this setup for the SUV.
This system combines a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors. One motor acts as a generator, while the other drives the wheels. Together, the system produces 160hp and 172Nm and is supported by a 1.4kWh battery pack.
Developed by Horse Powertrain, the hybrid setup uses a multi-mode automatic gearbox instead of a CVT. Unlike Toyota’s e-CVT-based hybrids, Renault’s E-Tech system uses fixed gear ratios, so drivers may notice gear shifts as it switches between electric, petrol and combined driving modes.
Renault claims that up to 80 percent of city driving can be done in EV mode, helping improve fuel efficiency. The larger battery pack also supports better electric-only running at low speeds.

The strong-hybrid engine is expected to make up for the absence of a diesel option on the Renault Duster 2026. However, since hybrid tech is expensive, Renault is also offering two turbo-petrol engines to keep pricing competitive.
Renault is preparing for a strong comeback in India, and the New-Gen Duster will play a key role in that plan. Once launched, it will take on SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming Tata Sierra. The hybrid version will also rival strong-hybrid SUVs such as the Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris.
Renault has not announced the official pricing yet. However, the Renault Duster 2026 price is expected to be revealed by March 2026, closer to its market launch.
