The Korean automaker, Kia, will launch two full-sized family vehicles - the new-gen Carnival and the EV9 electric SUV - in the country this year. A new media report claims that the new Kia Carnival MPV will be launched in India by October this year.
For people not in the know, Kia had showcased the KA4 concept, which is basically the new Carnival, at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company will introduce the facelifted version of the MPV, which is already on sale in select international markets. The new Kia Carnival will come as a completely-built-up (CBU) model. However, Kia will start local assembly of the MPV at a later stage.
In India, the new-gen Kia Carnival will be offered with a single 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that was available in the previous model. This engine is capable of producing 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by an 8-speed 'Sportsmatic' automatic gearbox.
In the international markets, the new Carnival is available with 3 engine options - a 3.5-litre V6 petrol, a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel.
Talking about interior, the 2024 Kia Carnival MPV gets a dual-screen setup and an optional 14.6-inch rear entertainment screen. It gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch digital driver's display. The switchgears for AC and audio controls are also updated in the facelifted Carnival.
In terms of features, the new-gen Kia Carnival gets front and rear dash cameras, a digital rearview mirror, a Head-Up Display, a rotary drive selector and others.
Talking about styling, the new Kia Carnival received significant upgrades. It features a newly-designed Kia Tiger nose front grille, new headlamps with striking LED DRLs, and a redesigned bumper. At the back, the Carnival has a revised bumper that accommodates narrower lights with metallic trim. It also gets tweaked tail-lamps. The new model measures 5,156mm in length, making it significantly longer than the previous model.
The new Carnival will be introduced as a CBU model, which will make it significantly pricier than the rivals. It will attract heavy import taxes. We expect the new Kia Carnival to cost somewhere around Rs 50 lakh. The MPV won't have a direct rival in the Indian market. It will come as a premium alternative to the likes of the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Innova Crysta.
