It is no secret that Nissan is developing a new compact SUV, which will be positioned above the Magnite in its current line-up. Likely to be launched in 2026, the new Nissan SUV will be based on the third-gen Renault Duster's CMF-B modular platform. Adding to it, a 7-seater derivative of the SUV is also under development and both will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan Alliance's Chennai based plant.
A new Nissan compact SUV has been caught testing in Brazil with a lot of camouflage. It is hard to reveal design details for the new SUV, but spy images suggest that it will measure close to current Nissan Kicks on sale in global markets. In fact, Nissan would aim to position the new compact SUV below the new-gen Kicks in international markets.
The new SUV will be produced in Nissan's Resende (RJ) manufacturing plant in Brazil. It is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Magnite. The new Nissan SUV is most likely to be developed on the CMF-B modular platform, which will be heavily localized for the Indian market.
The new CMF-B modular architecture will be used to develop four new SUVs including the new Duster. 7-seater Renault Bigster, Nissan compact SUV and a 7-seater SUV. All 4 SUVs will be launched in the period of 2026-27.
The India-spec Nissan compact SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol or a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol with a mild hybrid tech. Nissan could also use the 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol.
