Maruti Suzuki and Nissan are readying their respective affordable 3-row MPVs, which will sit below 4 meters in length. The new models will directly rival the Renault Triber, which is known for its excellent packaging of three rows within 4 meters. Japanese manufacturers are known for offering spacious cabin, and same is expected with the two upcoming sub-4 meter MPVs.
Nissan will launch the new entry-level MPV in the country in the second half of this year, most probably around September-October. Based on the Renault Triber's CMF-A modular architecture, the new Nissan MPV will be marketed as an affordable people mover. The Japanese brand has also released the first set of teasers showing the front fascia. The MPV will look significantly different from the Triber; however, both will have similar shape.
Interior details are yet to be revealed, but it is likely to share the interior packaging with the Triber MPV including the modular third-row seat. The cabin layout and features are likely to be shared with the Nissan Magnite. The new Nissan MPV is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 72bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Nissan could also offer the 1.0L turbo petrol engine with a CVT automatic unit. Read full report here
Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new entry-level MPV, which will be based on the Suzuki Spacia on sale in Japan. Codenamed YDB, the new 3-row Maruti MPV will launch in the country by 2026. While the Spacia is a 3.4 meters long mini van, the India-spec model will be stretched up to 4 meters and will have regular doors instead of sliding doors. Internally codenamed YDB, the new MPV will carry boxy silhouette to offer spacious cabin.
The new Maruti Suzuki YDB MPV will be sold through NEXA dealership network. It will come with a new in-house developed Series hybrid powertrain. The hybrid unit is likely to comprise the new Z12E, 1.2L 3-cylinder engine, a 1.5-2kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The engine will act as a generator to charge the smaller battery pack, while the electric motor will drive the front wheels.
