We informed you earlier that Volkswagen is planning to launch a new sub-4 meter SUV in our market. A new media report claims that the company has already started working on the new model. This will mark Volkswagen’s re-entry into the hotly contested sub-4 meter segment, as the Polo hatchback and Ameo sedan are already discontinued from our market.
The report claims that the new VW compact SUV will be launched by mid-2027. It will be the brand’s first model in the hotly contested sub-4 meter SUV category, which is dominated by the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and others. Not just Volkswagen, Renault and Honda are also planning to enter this compact SUV segment.
The report claims that Volkswagen is likely to adopt a badge-engineering strategy for its upcoming compact SUV. It will be based on the Skoda Kylaq, which is built on the MQB AO IN platform. The small SUV is expected to get new plastic parts, including a new front grille, new bumpers, new headlights and tail-lights.
The cabin is also likely to see some changes to differentiate it from the Kylaq. The SUV could get new colour scheme for dashboard, door panels and seats along with VW badging. It is reported that the SUV could get the GT Line trims with blacked-out exterior parts. Moreover, the new VW compact SUV could get more features than the Skoda Kylaq.
The new VW compact SUV is most likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed torque converter automatic.
Volkswagen will soon introduce the Tayron R-Line and standard Tayron in the market. Moreover, the second batch of the Golf GTI will arrive before the end of this year. Volkswagen’s two popular cars, the Virtus and Taigun will also receive a mid-life update.
