Volkswagen working on hotter ID Polo GTI Clubsport EV Performance hatch could produce up to 286hp Simulated gearshifts and sportier setup likely
Volkswagen is reportedly working on a more hardcore version of the upcoming ID Polo GTI electric hatchback.
After confirming the sporty ID Polo GTI recently, the company is now said to be exploring a new Clubsport version that could deliver more power, sharper handling, and a more engaging driving experience.
According to reports from Autocar UK, the upcoming ID Polo GTI Clubsport could produce around 286hp, which is significantly more than the standard GTI version’s expected 226hp output.

Volkswagen insiders suggest that the Clubsport version will not just be about extra power. The EV hot hatch is also expected to get upgrades aimed at improving overall driving dynamics.
The car could feature a mechanical limited-slip differential, helping improve traction and cornering performance.
Florian Umbach, Volkswagen’s Head of Driving Dynamics, reportedly hinted that the company still sees more potential in the existing motor and battery setup.
He said there is room to extract more power and torque while also improving how the front axle handles performance.
One of the most interesting details is that Volkswagen is considering adding simulated gearshifts to the ID Polo GTI Clubsport.
The feature could work similarly to Hyundai’s electric N models, where software creates a gearshift-like feel along with matching sound effects to make the driving experience more exciting.
According to Umbach, the system mainly relies on motor control software and audio tuning rather than a physical gearbox.
Volkswagen appears to be focusing on bringing back some of the emotional feel of traditional petrol-powered hot hatches, even in an electric format.
Volkswagen is also trying to retain the classic GTI identity with its future electric performance cars.
The ID Polo’s digital instrument cluster can already imitate the analogue dials from the original Mk1 Golf GTI. The simulated gearshift setup could further help recreate the feel of older GTI models.
Like previous Clubsport versions from Volkswagen, the new EV hatch could also receive a lower suspension setup, sharper chassis tuning, and more aggressive styling updates.
Volkswagen has also hinted that the Clubsport version will depend on how buyers respond to the regular ID Polo GTI once it launches.
The company reportedly said that projects like the Clubsport are easier to approve if the standard GTI proves commercially successful.
This means Volkswagen is carefully testing customer interest in performance-focused electric hatchbacks before expanding the lineup further.
