It is no secret that Renault will launch two new SUVs including the third-gen Duster and an all-new 3-row SUV in the Indian market. The company has confirmed that the new-gen Renault Duster will arrive in our market in early 2026. A new 7-seater SUV is most likely to be based on the Dacia Bigster, which is a 5-seater mid-sized SUV rivalling Jeep Compass.
The new Renault mid-sized SUV will first go on sale in international markets where it will rival the Jeep Compass, Toyota Corolla Cross and Volkswagen Taos. The spotted model appears closer to production and is ready to be launched in the market. It appears larger than the outgoing Jeep Compass and will measure closer to larger models including the GWM Haval H6 and the BYD Song Plus.
The Renault mid-sized SUV will also receive a 7-seater derivative, which will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others in the category. It is expected to measure around 4.57 meters in length, 1.80 meters in width and 1.70 meters in height with a wheelbase of around 2.74 meters.
Not just design, the new Renault SUV will share the interiors with the Bigster SUV. It will have similar dashboard layout with some changes, instrument panel, and touchscreen infotainment unit. In terms of features, the SUV will have a panoramic sunroof, an Arkamys audio system, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a powered driver's seat, a powered tailgate and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite.
The Dacia Bigster is available with multiple engine options - mild hybrid, strong hybrid and LPG. The mild-hybrid unit gets a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a 48V system, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an AWD system. The strong hybrid version gets a 107bhp, 1.6L NA petrol paired to a 50bhp, dual electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 155bhp.
The new Renault mid-sized SUV is expected to be offered with the same set of engines in global markets. However, the India-spec model could get a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This engine will also power the third-gen Renault Duster and new Nissan SUV in India.
