Renault Duster hybrid to rival Grand Vitara and Hyryder It will get a 1.8L petrol engine with two electric motors and 1.4kWh battery pack
The much-awaited Renault Duster hybrid will finally launch in the Indian market on October 17, 2026. The SUV was initially introduced with the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, and the self-charging hybrid engine will be its third powertrain. For people not in the know, the hybrid version has already been sold out for 2026 production cycle, and bookings have been temporarily halted.

We expect the new Hybrid engine, called the E-Tech system will be offered with the higher-spec variants of the Duster. It is expected to command a premium of around Rs 2 lakh over the ICE-powered Duster, which is currently priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.69 lakh, ex-showroom.
Engine Specifications
The strong-hybrid Renault Duster will feature a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors - a 20bhp motor working as a starter-generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels, and a 1.4kWh battery pack. The setup delivers a combined power and torque output of 160bhp and 172Nm, respectively. It will be the most powerful hybrid model in its category, and will challenge the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid and Toyota Hyryder. The SUV also comes with a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox. It will also be positioned against the upcoming next-generation Hyundai Creta hybrid and Kia Seltos hybrid.
The SUV is expected to offer a fuel efficiency of around 22kmpl - 25kmpl. The SUV will mostly run on electric in low-speeds or during bumper-to-bumper traffic. In fact, Renault claims that the SUV's 80 percent of city drive can be done in EV mode.
The Duster Hybrid will look largely identical to its ICE-powered version, except for the 'HYBRID' wordmark on the tailgate. It will get the signature Renault grille, LED headlamps with eyebrow-shaped DRLs, 18-inch alloys, and connected LED tail-lamps. It will be packed with features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with built-in Google, and wireless smartphone connectivity, powered and ventilated front seats, LEVEL 2 ADAS suite, panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree surround view camera.
