Renault to launch Duster hybrid arriving this Diwali MG to launch Hector Hawk PHEV JSW Motors to begin its independent PV maker journey with Jetour T2
Seeing the higher fuel efficiency and lack of charging infrastructure, automakers are turning to Strong Hybrids (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) as the best bet in the Indian market. By combing battery-electric efficiency for daily urban commutes with petrol-powered range for long road trips, these upcoming SUVs deliver extraordinary fuel efficiency without any range anxiety.
Here is a quick look at four highly-anticipated high-mileage hybrid SUVs heading to showrooms in coming weeks.

Launched in March 2026, the new Renault Duster is currently available with two turbocharged petrol engines. The company will introduce the Duster with a strong hybrid powertrain this Diwali. The hybrid version has already been sold out for 2026 production cycle, and bookings have been temporarily halted. The new Duster hybrid will look exactly identical to its ICE-powered version, except for the ‘HYBRID’ badges on the exterior and inside the cabin.
The Duster hybrid will feature a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors - a 20bhp motor working as a starter-generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels. The system is further assisted by a 1.4kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the hybrid versions of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. The SUV comes with a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox.
The SUV is expected to return a certified fuel economy of around 20-22kmpl. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid. It will also be positioned against the upcoming next-generation Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Kia Seltos Hybrid.
Kia has officially announced its upcoming Sorento Hybrid SUV for the Indian market. Interested customers can book the new SUV online or at authorised Kia dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. Set to be locally assembled, the new 3-row SUV is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 28 lakh to Rs 38 lakh, ex-showroom. It will take on the higher-spec variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The new Kia Sorento hybrid will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configuration. The 6-seater version features second-row captain seats with individual armrests.
It is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol strong hybrid powertrain, paired with an electric motor to deliver smooth city driving and higher efficiency. It is reported that the new SUV could get the locally developed 1.5L strong hybrid engine, which will also power the next-gen Creta and Kia Seltos. Adding to it, the SUV could also get a 2.2-litre CRDi turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

JSW MG Motor India has recently showcased its new ADAPT modular platform, which will be used to produce hybrids, PHEVs, ICE and electric vehicles. The first model based on the platform will be an all-new SUV, which is likely to be the Indianised version of the Wuling Starlight 560 on sale in international markets. Expected to be called the MG Hector Hawk, the new SUV will measure around 4.8 meters in length and will directly rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO.
The new MG Hector Hawk is expected to be offered with both EV and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The PHEV could use a 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack, and offers a combined power and torque output of 195 hp and 230 Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer an electric-only driving range of up to 125 km, and offers a total range of over 1000km on a full battery charge and a single full tank.

Set to begin its independent journey as Independent passenger vehicle brand, JSW Motors is set to introduce its first product during festive season. The company has joined hands with Chery to bring some of its global products to begin its independent journey. The Jetour T2 will be its first product in the Indian market. This boxy, rugged SUV has been designed as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Land Rover Defender.
The Jetour T2 is packed with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine paired with a dual-motor electric setup. The combined power and torque output stands at 381 PS and 691 Nm, respectively. It is likely to be packed with a dedicated 4WD system combined with a 205 mm ground clearance and an aggressive 39-degree approach angle will add to its off-road capabilities. The Jetour T2 is packed with a 26.7 kWh battery pack, and offers an EV-only range of around 100-139 km for city commutes. Combined with a full tank of petrol, the total range will cross 1,000 km.
