Renault India to Launch 3 Hybrid SUVs: Duster, Bridger and Bigster
Renault Duster hybrid launch in October 2026 Bridger compact SUV and Bigster to arrive in 2027-28
In a bid to strengthen its market position, Renault India is planning to introduce 3 new hybrid SUVs in the Indian market. The company’s first self-charging hybrid electric vehicle will be launched in October 2026. Moreover, the company will introduce a sub-4m SUV and a new 7-seater SUV with hybrid SUV by 2028.
1. Renault Duster Hybrid
The Renault Duster will be the brand’s first hybrid SUV, which is scheduled to be launched on October 17, 2026. The SUV will rival the strong-hybrid heavyweights like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Renault’s self-charging E-Tech hybrid system integrates a 1.8-litre multi-mode petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The combined power and torque output of 160bhp and 172Nm, respectively. The Hybrid SUV is capable of running ip to 80% of urban drive cycles strictly in EV mode.
The Duster Hybrid is expected to offer a fuel economy of around 22-25kmpl. It will be based on the RGMP platform, offering high ground clearance and electronic terrain modes.
2. Renault Bridger
Renault has officially announced to launch the Bridger Concept based sub-4-metre SUV in the Indian market in 2027. It will be based on the localised RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) that also underpins the Duster SUV. It will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV, offering a rugged SUV stance, boxy shape and high ground clearance.
The SUV features an upright, boxy stance, pronounced wheel arches and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel layout. Despite its under 4-metre length, the Renault Bridger claims to offer a class-leading 400-litres boot space and generous rear legroom.
It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, which will be compatible with CNG and hybrid powertrain. The engine is likely to return a fuel efficiency of around 30kmpl.
3. Bigster 7-Seater
Renault India will launch the new 3-row SUV based on the Bigster or Boreal SUV on sale in select international markets. This SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV and Tata Safari. It is built on the RGMP platform, and will have an extended wheelbase of 2.74 meters. It is expected to come with 6 and 7-seat layout with the former having captain seats in the second row.
The SUV will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 163hp, paired with a 6-speed DCT and 6-speed MT. Its hybrid version will get a 1.8L strong hybrid engine, offering a combined power output of 160hp. This engine is likely to offer a fuel efficiency of around 20 kmpl.
