RTI Discloses Tata Sierra ARAI Mileage Months After Launch - Turbo Petrol 13.5kmpl

Tata Motors has not released the official fuel efficiency figures for the new Sierra lifestyle SUV, which has been receiving an overwhelming response from car buyers in India. However, an RTI filed by Vahan Warta (X Account) reveals the fuel efficiency numbers of the Sierra. 

As per the RTI response from ARAI, the Tata Sierra 1.5 TGDi Hyperion petrol engine delivers a mileage of 13.5kmpl. The diesel version with the 1.5 Kryojet engine offers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18.8kmpl. The fuel efficiency figures of the 1.5L NA petrol variant is yet to be released, as the Sierra 1.5 NA is yet to receive an ARAI certificate. As per the report, the diesel engine received its ARAI certificate on 21 November 2025, while the turbo petrol engine was certified by ARAI on 11 December 2025.

For people not in the know, the Tata Sierra turbo petrol version secured its name in the India Book of Records by achieving 29.9kmpl while doing a 12 hour run at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore. The ARAI numbers are shocking, as the SUV is one of the least fuel efficient in its category. 

The SUV is offered with 3 engine options - a 104bhp, 1.5L NA petrol, a 158bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol and a 116bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual as standard, a 7-speed DCA with 1.5L NA and a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.

Production Increased to meet the demand

Tata Motors has increased the production of the Tata Sierra to meet the rising demand. The SUV has received over 1 lakh bookings by the end of Feb month. It commands a waiting period of around 6-7 months. Tata says that the production ramp-up will help faster deliveries in the coming months, which will also reduce the waiting periods for customers. 

Price and other details

The Tata Sierra is available in 5 trim levels - Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, and Adventure+ - in both petrol and diesel avatars. It is available in the price bracket of Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh, ex-showroom. The SUV offers a boot space of 622-litres to the roof (450-litres to the parcel shelf), which can be further extended up to 1257-litres by folding the second-row seats. It also has the segment longest wheelbase of 2730mm, that’s 40mm longer than the Kia Seltos.
