Tata Sierra CNG and AWD Launch Timeline and Key Details

Tata Sierra CNG arriving this festive season Sierra AWD confirmed for 2027

Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited Sierra EV on June 30, 2026. The company is also expanding the ICE-powered Tata Sierra by introducing new powertrains. The existing model will receive a factory-fitted CNG kit and the rugged All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants. Recent real-world spy shots have cleared air on their launch timeline and technical details.

Tata Sierra iCNG: Festive Season

Expected Launch Timeline: Around the Diwali 2026 festive season

Current Status: Spotted during active emissions-rig testing

The Tata Sierra lineup currently available with 3 standard ICE choices: a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbocharged petrol and a 1.5L diesel motor. However, the homegrown automaker is diversifying into the premium green segment by introducing a factory-fitted CNG version.

Twin Cylinder Layout: To avoid the cargo compromises that associated with traditional aftermarket CNG kits, the Sierra CNG will deploy Tata’s iCNG Twin-Cylinder Technology. This mounts two separate tanks side by side beneath the trunk floor, leaving the boot completely uncompromised for luggage.

Engine Specs: It is yet to be revealed whether the CNG kit will be offered with the 106bhp, 1.5L NA petrol engine or with the high-performance 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine for punchier driving experience. We expect the naturally-aspirated engine will suit more with the CNG kit.

Tata Sierra AWD

Expected Launch Timeline: Mid-2027

Current Status: Officially announced, testing yet to begin

The homegrown automaker has confirmed that the Tata Sierra ICE version will receive a dedicated All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setup in 2027. The new Sierra ICE is built on Tata’s brand new All-Terrain Ready Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture (ARGOS) platform, which is engineered to support both FWD and AWD drivetrains along with multiple fuel options.

While the standard versions comes with front-wheel-drive setup, the high-end trims with 1.5L GDi engine are likely to receive the AWD option in 2027.

1.5L Direct-Injection Turbo Petrol - 158bhp and 255Nm. 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
