Sierra EV launch by May 2026 Safari EV to launch before Diwali Tata to introduce Avinya nameplate by the end of FY27
Tata Motors is planning to launch 3 new electric SUVs in the country in the next 1-2 years. The company will introduce the much-anticipated Sierra EV and long-awaited Safari EV by festive season, before Diwali. Moreover, the much-anticipated Avinya nameplate will be officially introduced in the first half of 2027. It is expected that the production version of the Avinya X will be the first model under the Avinya nameplate.

Likely to be launched in May 2026, the upcoming Tata Sierra EV will directly challenge the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. It will be based on the Acti.ev platform that also underpins the Curvv EV. It is likely to be offered with two battery choices, including a 55kWh from Curvv EV and the 65kWh from the Harrier EV.
The Tata Sierra EV will be a front-wheel-drive model, but the higher-spec model will come with a dual-motor AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) setup. It is expected to offer a realistic range of around 400-450km on a single charge. The Sierra EV will look largely identical to the ICE derivative, except for the new set of alloys, closed-off front and revised bumpers. Key features will include connected LED DRLs, flush-type door handles, triple screen dashboard, ventilated and powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, LEVEL 2 ADAS, ESC, hill launch and descent assist, and multiple airbags.

Tata Motors is reportedly to launch the Safari EV in our market by Festive season, before Diwali 2026. This will be the brand’s first 7-seater electric SUV, and will directly rival the Mahindra XEV 9S. Production of the new Tata Safari EV is expected to commence by August 2026. Codenamed Tayrona, the Safari EV will be based on the same acti.ev+ platform that underpins the Harrier EV. The electric SUV will source its battery and motor configuration with the Tata Harrier EV.
It will come with two battery choices, including 65kWh and 75kWh units with a rear-axle-mounted motor as standard. The higher-spec model will get a dual-motor AWD setup. Since it will be bigger and heavier than the Harrier EV, the Safari EV will offer slightly less range. We expect the SUV to offer a realistic range of up to 450km on a single charge, and will support up to 100kW DC fast charging.
The 7-seater Tata EV will offer multiple terrain modes - Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock, Crawl and Custom, and multi-link rear suspension with frequency-dependent dampers.
Tata Motors has officially announced to introduce its luxury EV brand, the Avinya before the end of this financial year. It is reported that the company will first launch an all-new electric SUV, which is rumoured to be based on the Tata Avinya X electric SUV concept that debuted at 2025 Delhi Auto Expo. This electric SUV will be sold through new premium dealership network under the AVINYA nameplate.
The electric SUV will be based on JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture, which will be heavily localised to achieve competitive pricing. It is expected to be packed with a large battery pack, around 90-100kWh with dual-motor AWD setup. Some of the key features include triple screen display, V2L and V2V function, LEVEL 2+ ADAS, multi-zone climate control, pop-out door handles, sloping roofline, multi-spoke aero-optimised alloys and others.
