Tata Motors is all geared to launch the petrol variant of its popular Harrier SUV in the near future and it will get a segment-first 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The new variant will be more performing as well as provide a smoother ride for the Harrier. The new variant is expected to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor, which would be a major improvement over the current diesel variant.
The petrol version of the Tata Harrier is likely to get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The engine will churn out approximately 170 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. Tata is planning to make this engine more fuel-efficient and powerful. This engine is expected to offer an equilibrium driving experience with enhanced power output and more fuel-efficient operation.
The most exciting new development of the coming Tata Harrier petrol variant is the 7-speed DCT transmission. The dual-clutch transmission should provide quicker and smoother gear shifts compared to the old 6-speed automatic transmissions. It should be a big improvement, making driving more enjoyable and responsive and driving pleasure of the Harrier petrol. Tata bringing in a 7-speed DCT could set the Harrier ahead of the competition.
While Tata Motors had previously planned to launch the Harrier petrol in 2024, it will now come later in July 2025. The fresh petrol engine is likely to come with a 6-speed manual and the 7-speed DCT auto-manual gearbox. This will give customers a choice based on driving habits.
The Tata Harrier petrol will also need to be made available with several upgrade alternatives. These can include an upgraded infotainment system, larger screens, and improved connectivity options in the guise of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via Wi-Fi. The interior may also find space for finer trim materials, air-conditioned seats, and a digital driver instrument cluster. In terms of safety features, the petrol variant of Harrier can be expected with several airbags, a 360-degree camera, and most likely advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The new Tata Harrier petrol with the 7-speed DCT transmission is likely to put it in direct competition with other SUVs in the segment. The new petrol engine and transmission combination is likely to make the Harrier an even better value for customers seeking performance and fuel efficiency. The choice of Tata Motors to include a petrol variant with the new features is likely to make the Harrier a market leader in a competitive market.
Overall, the new Tata Harrier petrol with a 7-speed DCT gearbox is an exciting new entrant in the SUV class. With improved performance, silky smooth shifting, and state-of-the-art features, it should be one of the customer favourites. Tata Motors will be introducing the Harrier petrol in July 2025, and it could be a player in its category.
