MG Hector Hawk and Kia Sorento Launch Dates Out

Two highly-anticipated hybrid SUVs, the MG Hector Hawk PHEV and Kia Sorento are set to be launched in our market in coming weeks. Launch dates of both these models are out, and official bookings of the Sorento hybrid has already been commenced. JSW MG Motor India will launch an all-new SUV, rumoured to be called the Hector Hawk, on August 28, 2026. On the other hand, the Kia Sorento three-row SUV will go on sale in India on September 4, 2026.

The 3-row hybrid SUV will be positioned above the Seltos as Kia India’s flagship ICE SUV, and will be the brand’s first hybrid model in our market. The new Kia Sorento is likely to be locally assembled, and is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 30-40 lakh. It will rival the likes of the VW Tayron, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian and higher-spec variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

The new Sorento hybrid is expected to feature a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid setup producing 238 hp and 380 Nm. It will also get a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 202 hp and 441 Nm of torque. Both engines are likely to be paired with automatic transmissions. The global-spec models will be offered with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts.

The new Sorento hybrid will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configuration. The 6-seater version features second-row captain seats with individual armrests. It measures 4815mm in length, 1900mm in width and 1700mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2815mm. In terms of features, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch driver’s display, wireless phone charger, Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, HUD, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others.

The new MG Hector Hawk will be the first model based on the brand’s new ADAPT platform, which will be used to develop vehicles supporting EV, HEV, PHEV and ICE vehicles. The new Hector Hawk will be offered with both battery-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. This SUV is based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is on sale in the International markets. It measures around 4.7 metres in length, 1.85 metres in width and 1.7 metres in height.

The Hector Hawk EV is expected to get a 69.2 kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor, offering a combined power and torque output of 201 hp and 310 Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer a range of 530 km (CLTC). The plug-in hybrid version is packed with a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The setup offers a combined power and torque output of 195 hp and 230 Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer an all-electric range of 125 km, and a total range of over 1000km on a full tank and a full battery.
