A worth-buying SUV, Tata Harrier has gained a lot of attention from Indian customers due to its bold design, premium cabin, and impressive features. Currently, in diesel avatar only, the Harrier will be made available in multiple powertrain choices including petrol and electric.
The automaker is planning to expand the engine lineup or Harrier SUV by introducing its petrol and electric powertrain. Right now, it is available in one diesel engine that is sourced from Stellantis. Its 2.0-litre diesel engine can produce a maximum power of 168 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. Customers also get the choices of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. With the manual option, the SUV offers the best mileage of 16.80 kmpl and 14.60 kmpl with the automatic transmission.
Recently, the brand started testing the Harrier EV on the roads, which gave us hints regarding its interior features and specifications. It is likely to get a battery pack ranging 60-80 kWh offering a range of 500 km on a single charge. Based on the Acti.ev Platform, the Harrier EV will also receive an All-Wheel-Drive option.
As for the petrol-powered Harrier, Tata might use an all-new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It could deliver 168 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. This petrol unit will also be offered in the Safari SUV.
Tata is expected to launch the Harrier Petrol and Harrier EV in India by 2025. In fact, the iconic Sierra will also arrive in its electric iteration before the end of FY26. The petrol-powered Harrier will compete with MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV 700, and Hyundai Alcazar while the electric Harrier will compete with BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8.
