Tata Safari EV spotted testing on public roads. Expected to offer over 500 km driving range. Launch likely around the festive season.
Tata Motors is steadily expanding its electric vehicle lineup, and the next big addition could be the Safari EV. Fresh spy shots of the upcoming electric SUV have now surfaced online, suggesting that development is progressing well ahead of its expected launch later this year.
Once launched, the Safari EV will become Tata Motors' first-ever 7-seater electric SUV. It is also expected to become one of the brand's flagship EV offerings, positioned above the recently launched Harrier EV.

The latest test mule was spotted testing under heavy camouflage, but several important details are still visible.
At first glance, the Safari EV retains the familiar silhouette of the standard Safari. The SUV continues to feature its upright stance, roof rails, large wheel arches and roof-mounted spoiler. The overall proportions remain unchanged, which is expected as Tata is likely to use the existing Safari body structure for the electric version.
However, the test vehicle also reveals some EV-specific changes. One notable addition is the side step, which is not offered on the current ICE-powered Safari. The spy shots also suggest the presence of a multi-link rear suspension setup, similar to what is available with the Harrier EV.

The Safari EV is expected to be based on Tata's Acti.ev+ architecture, the same platform that underpins the Harrier EV.
This shared platform approach will allow Tata Motors to bring proven EV technology to the Safari while keeping development costs under control. The electric SUV is also expected to feature a redesigned front fascia with a closed-off grille, revised bumpers and unique alloy wheels to differentiate it from the diesel model.
Dimensionally, the Safari EV is expected to remain largely identical to the standard Safari, ensuring ample cabin space for three rows of passengers.
Inside, the Safari EV is expected to borrow several features from the Harrier EV.
The SUV could get Tata's latest TIDAL software architecture, a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, over-the-air updates and a premium JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.
Advanced features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, auto park assist, summon mode, a 540-degree camera system and an upgraded ADAS suite are also likely to be offered.
As Tata's flagship electric SUV, the Safari EV is expected to focus heavily on technology and comfort.

Powertrain options are expected to mirror those available with the Harrier EV.
The Safari EV could be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options. Rear-wheel-drive variants are likely to be available across the lineup, while higher variants may get an all-wheel-drive setup with dual electric motors.
Since the Safari EV is larger and heavier than the Harrier EV, its range may be slightly lower. However, the SUV is still expected to deliver more than 500 km on a full charge, making it a practical option for long-distance family travel.
The Safari EV will enter a segment that is beginning to gain momentum.
Mahindra recently introduced the XEV 9S, which has quickly emerged as the company's best-selling electric SUV. The strong response to a premium three-row electric SUV highlights growing demand in this space.
With its familiar Safari branding, spacious cabin and long-range electric powertrain, Tata will be hoping to attract buyers looking for a family-friendly electric SUV.
While Tata Motors has not officially confirmed a launch date, reports suggest the Safari EV could arrive around the festive season.
The SUV is expected to be priced from around Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it above the Harrier EV in Tata's electric lineup.
With fresh spy shots now emerging and testing activity increasing, the Safari EV appears to be moving closer to its official debut.
