The all-new Tata Sierra SUV has created a market buzz in the market even before its offcial arrival. Its ICE-powered near-production version was recently showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show, while the electric iteration was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. Both models share some similarities, but also show significant differences in terms of design, interior, and of-course the powertrain.
The carmaker has confirmed that the Tata Sierra will be available at Tata Motors showrooms in the second half of 2025. The SUV is most likely to arrive during the Diwali season. As of now, it is unclear whether both versions will be launched together or if the ICE-powered Sierra will arrive a little later.
The engine specifications of the Sierra ICE and EV are still under the wraps. However, the SUV’s ICE version is expected feature the brand’s 1.5L direct injection turbocharged petrol and 2.0L diesel engines. The petrol engine, first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, delivers a claimed power of 170bhp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 2,000rpm and 3,500rpm. Tata has revealed that this new petrol engine is benefited with the dual cam phasing, a viable oil pump and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head.
Additionally, the new TGDi engine is claimed to offer better torque from lower in the rev range, thanks to its water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger. The diesel engine, which will be borrowed from the Harrier and Safari, offers a maximum power of 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. While the carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed that the Sierra will come with the 4X4 capabilities, it has revealed that the vehicles built on the ATLAS platform (which underpins the Sierra ICE) are compatible with this technology.
The Tata Sierra EV, on the other hand, is reported to come with two or more battery pack options, ranging from 60kWh to 80kWh. These batteries can be had either with a single or dual electric motor setups. Its range is likely to be around 500km.
The recently showcased Sierra ICE features three screen setup including one for the digital instrument functionalities and the other two for the central and passenger side infotainment system. The Tata Sierra is expected to come with several high-end features including Level 2 ADAS tech, premium sound system, ventilated seats, connected car tech, multi-way powered driver seat, auto dimming inside rear view mirror, dual or triple zone automatic climate control, hill descent control, adaptive cruise control, wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof and more.
The all-new Tata Sierra retains some iconic design elements form the original such as the signature curved-over rear side windows, raised bonnet and squarish wheel arches. However, it looks modern with a newly-designed grille and alloy wheels (shod with 195/65 R19 tyres), shorter front and rear overhangs and black cladding.
