Kia to launch 7-seater Sorento hybrid Syros EV arriving soon to rival Nexon EV
Kia has recently launched the new-gen Seltos SUV, which has received a positive response from car buyers in India. The company is now preparing two more SUVs, including a new 7-seater hybrid and an all-new compact electric SUV. Both SUVs are expected to be launched before the end of next financial year, by March 2027. Here are the details of the two upcoming Kia SUVs in India in 2026-27.

Kia will launch an electric derivative of the Syros compact SUV in India in 2026. The SUV has already been caught testing multiple times in India as well as in South Korea. It will be based on the K1 platform that also underpins the Hyundai Inster EV on sale in select international markets. Not just Kia, Hyundai is also testing a compact electric SUV in India. The Kia Syros EV could use the same 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs that powers the Inster EV.
The Inster EV with 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs offer a WLTP range of 300km and 355km, respectively, in a single charge. The electric SUV is estimated to be priced around Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. It will take on the likes of the MG Windsor EV, Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. The spy images suggest that the Syros EV will look similar to the regular model, except for the few EV-specific changes. The electric SUV will come with a blanked-off front profile, NEO or Lime Green colour brake callipers and front-fender mounted charging port.
Kia is testing the Sorento 7-seater SUV with a hybrid powertrain in India. The SUV will rival the likes of the Jeep Meridian, Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari. Estimated to be priced around Rs 35 lakh, the Sorento hybrid is expected to be launched the second half of 2026 or early 2027. The SUV in global markets is available with 3 engine choices, including a a 238hp, 1.6L turbo-petrol hybrid, a 288hp 1.6-litre turbo petrol plug-in hybrid and a 2.2L diesel hybrid. However, the India-spec model is reportedly to get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol hybrid, which will also power the new Kia Seltos and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. The company could also offer the 1.6L hybrid powertrain.
