Kia Motors is on the move to expand its product portfolio by looking to add another model to its SUV lineup. According to media reports, a New Kia SUV was spotted testing recently which is likely to launch later this year. Codenamed AY, the vehicle could have an official name - Clavis. Upon launch, it will sit between popular Kia models, i.e. Sonet and the Seltos.
Based on the relevant spy images, the Kia Clavis comes across as a compact SUV. From the design perspective, despite its black camouflage, the vehicle features a boxy profile. It further caters to automatic ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and dual-tone alloy wheels. Even on the inside, it is believed to offer ample space for occupants seated upfront and towards the rear.
Since SUVs are the trend and are liked by consumers, the brand will offer a bold-looking vehicle which will be different in design from the updated Kia Sonet and Seltos.
Unlike the existing portfolio, Kia Clavis is expected to be powered by multiple powertrain options including an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and an Electric one. The ICE models could include 1.0-litre turbo petrol units, generating a maximum power output of 117 bhp with 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices will include 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT gearboxes. The details for the battery-powered unit are yet to be disclosed.
