Volkswagen Tera is based on the MQB A0 platform that underpins the Skoda Kylaq VW Tera India launch expected next year It will be powered by a 1.0L turbo petrol engine The VW Tera will be revealed during the Rio Carnival parades tomorrow
The long-awaited Volkswagen Tera compact SUV will make its global debut tomorrow, that's on March 2, 2025. Ahead of the global release, Volkswagen has released multiple images that show the final lines of the production model. The VW Tera will be revealed during the Rio Carnival parades.
Set to be Volkswagen's smallest ever SUV, the Tera will adorn the brand's new design language. The sub-compact SUV will have styling similar to the new breed of global SUVs including the new generation Tiguan and the redesigned Taos, which is on sale in the United States and Mexico.
The Volkswagen Tera comes with an aggressive bumper that houses a larger grille with a honeycomb shape. There are two side air intakes that are very prominent. It has a chrome strip that connects the LED headlamps with an integrated daytime running light signature. There is no illuminated grille connecting the two sides.
The SUV also gets newly styled outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs), which is different from the one offered on the Polo or Nivus. There is a prominent crease in the rear side, which connects the door to the taillight. The SUV has a uniquely styled 'C' column and the wheel arches, which we have not seen on any of the VW SUVs. It gets newly styled five-spoke alloy wheels, which are likely to be 16 or 17-inch in size.
The cabin details are yet to be revealed, but it is most likely to share the features with the Polo and Nivus. It is expected to come with a simple yet functional dashboard, dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console and automatic climate control.
The Volkswagen Tera compact SUV is based on the Taubaté factory (SP). The sub-compact SUV is based on the VW Group's MQB A0 platform that also underpins the Polo, Nivus, T-Cross and others in the segment. It is the same architecture that is used to develop the Skoda Kylaq, VW Taigun, Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus.
The new Tera compact SUV is likely to measure around 4 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2,566mm, which is similar to the Polo hatchback. In the global markets, the VW Tera will rival the likes of the Fiat Pulse and Renault Kardian.
The new Volkswagen Tera will be powered by a tried & tested 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine, which is widely used by Volkswagen across nations. This engine is reportedly to produce around 116bhp, which is similar to the new-gen Polo. The brand also has a more powerful version of the engine that produces 128hp. It will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. The German brand could also add the entry-level 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the base version of the Tera.
The German brand will introduce the Tera compact SUV in the Brazilian market. Volkswagen will also launch a sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market. It is expected that the Tera based SUV could also be introduced in our market. The SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and others in the category.
