MG Motor India has introduced a new variant for the 2023 Hector. The new Shine trim will sit above the entry-level Style variant, as it will be available with both petrol and diesel powertrain options. Additionally, the SUV has received a price hike across the range. We take a closer look.
The Shine variant used to be offered in the older version of the Hector but was not available with the new facelifted SUV during the launch. The trim sits between the base Style and top-end Smart variants. It gets much more features over the former like LED headlights, fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, a reverse parking camera with sensors, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and an electric sunroof.
However, the Hector Shine does miss out on equipment like the 18-inch alloy wheels, connected LED tail lights, connected car tech, and voice recognition that are exclusive to the flagship Smart trim.

As mentioned, the MG Hector Shine is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The former is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor that makes 143 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. While the oil burner is a 2-litre turbo diesel unit pumping out 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox.
MG has given a price hike to all 2023 Hector variants. The base Style petrol-manual trim prices have increased by Rs 27,000 while the rest of the petrol variants have received a Rs 36,000 hike. In comparison, all diesel variants are now more expensive by Rs 61,000.
Prices for the MG Hector now start from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Style 1.5 MT, going all the way up to Rs 22.12 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top Smart Pro 2.0 MT variant. Since its launch in January, this is the first time that the SUV has received a price hike of such kind.
