Citroen India last year launched the C3 Aircross in the market during the month of September. Priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the model is positioned as one of the most budget-friendly in its category. However, the initial release did not include an automatic gearbox option. This limitation is set to change, as the French automaker is preparing to unveil an updated version of the C3 Aircross featuring a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
Before the official launch slated for 29th January, the brand has provided details about the specifications of the automatic variant. Speculations are that the automatic gearbox will be offered only on the Plus and Max trims.
Let’s explore more!
Previously, the C3 Aircross featured a 6-speed manual gearbox with its 1.2-litre, turbo-petrol engine. This engine in its current state delivers a maximum power output of 107 bhp with 190 Nm of peak torque.
Now, the company is set to introduce a 6-speed torque converter option for the same powertrain. With the inclusion of a new gearbox, the torque figure is believed to go up by 15 Nm when using the automatic mode. As a result, the total torque output will stand at 205 Nm.
As for the mileage, the manual version of the vehicle returns 18.5 kmpl (ARAI certified). Till now there is no update on how much the automatic option will deliver.
Apart from the new automatic gearbox, there are no visual changes expected to the exterior and interior design. According to the current prices (manual trims), it starts from Rs 9.99 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom).
But, for the automatic variants, expect a hike of around Rs 1 lakh over the manual trims. Talking about its rivals, the vehicle will take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
